Church News October 2017

Two musical concerts have taken place in church this month. The first was an evening with the Birmingham Canoldir Male Choir, in the company of talented and high profile choral and solo performers, who delighted the audience with a varied programme. Parishioner and churchyard mowing volunteer Ed Richards is a choir member and the PCC is hugely grateful to him and the church team, for their organisational skills in bringing everything together. There is so much involved in putting on an event like this but the response has been more than rewarding. One of the many high spots were violinists Poppy and Amelia Wood (now at Dodderhill School) who were both babies at our font, and pupils at Hanbury School. These talented young ladies entertained with artistry and composure - a comprehensive report of the whole concert can be found on our website and in the Autumn issue of Hanbury Herald.
The afternoon concert given by Martin Woodford Music School from Germany was a complete contrast with tea and cake in the pews and the opportunity for children and adults alike to hear lively music from the 60’s and 70’s. Martin explained the workings of wind instruments and invited people to have a go, or rather a blow! Martin was brought up in this area and told of his visits to Hanbury church as a boy on a bicycle where he drank water from the well. At Tardebigge church, where his friend’s father was churchwarden, he used to enjoy playing the trumpet, appreciating the acoustics; this has to be one of the many great opportunities offered by our church buildings!
Thank you to everyone who prepared and attended the concerts and also to all of these musicians for sharing their skill and passion while raising £1, 200.00 towards the Heating Appeal.
Harvest Festival celebrations
Harvest Festival celebrations with both school and Sunday congregations filled church with music and thankfulness for the bounty of the countryside. Our trusty local farmers, and Hanbury WI in their centenary year, added a memorable dimension to the service. Thank you for generous donations of fruit, vegetables and groceries donated by Pippins Nursery, Hanbury School and members of the congregation. Radfield Home Care, which serves Redditch and Bromsgrove, delivered a large hamper along with information about their services and a request for carers – please visit the coffee area to pick up a leaflet. Food was donated to Droitwich foodbank and Maggs Day Centre in Worcester.
