Service for Lesley

In December, a service was held for Lesley, the youngest member of the church team and gifted PCC treasurer. Lesley really enjoyed finance and wowed us with not only her efficiency, but also her patience and thoughtfulness. As Bursar of Bromsgrove School she had also gained experience relating to building projects which was invaluable to the Re-ordering Committee. The service was attended by family, friends and many colleagues from Bromsgrove School the latter of which is planning a ‘Celebration of Life’ service for their community.

Lesley discovered Hanbury church many years ago while on leave for medical treatment and on recovery, joined the PCC. Her input gave us all a tremendous lift, her contributions being insightful, spot on and upbeat. Sue Jenkins writes about a last appearance at church in which she shared a few words about a favourite hymn:

‘Lesley chose ‘My Song is Love Unknown’ for Songs of Praise, also for her funeral.

She wasn’t feeling well, and hadn’t planned to stay for the whole service. Not only did she do so, she bravely spoke publicly about her choice of hymn, and gave a personal testimony about her faith.The final verse is as follows…

Here might I stay and sing,

No story so divine;

Never was love, dear King,

Never was grief like thine.

This is my friend in whose sweet praise

I all my days could gladly spend.

What a fabulous person writes Sue! Our hearts go out to Mal, Eloise and Richard, Lesley’s mother and all of Lesley’s family.
