Reordering the Past to build a Future.
Please help.
At the heart of all we do is our Christian mission. Hanbury church is a beautiful historic building in a wonderful location and as a result means many different things to people both local and from afar. With or without a Christian faith all are welcome here.
Please read on to discover the story of our plans for the future, watch the video below and please, help if you can.
Following the receipt of a generous bequest from parishioner Brenda Barber our eyes were opened to the possibilities this brought. There is unfinished business in an incomplete reordering project from over twenty years ago and a need to secure the future.
We undertook the task of finding out what all of the “stakeholders” in Hanbury church would like to see us do through public consultation and all of the feasible suggestions were concerned with accessibility, comfort, safety, facilities, warmth in winter whilst not changing the fundamental character of the church building.
We analysed the suggestions and decided to take on the challenge. This will involve improving accessibility to the church so that all, the able and those with disabilities may enter through the main door instead of an inconvenient and discriminatory door at the rear of the building. Provision of a fully accessible WC and baby changing facilities are also key as is the enclosing of the north aisle – as planned may years ago – to provide a safe, comfortable, warm space for all activities including a small café.
To achieve this ambitious project we need to raise a great deal of money in addition to the bequest and other funds already raised and ringfenced for this purpose. We need a further £400,000. So, our appeal for funds is now live.
If you can please give generously either by cheque payable to “Hanbury St Mary’s PCC Fabric Account” or even better by following the link below. If you are eligible please “Gift Aid” your gift so that HMRC also contribute an additional 20%.
